CEU Movie Entry “Mandy” Wins Multiple Awards in the FILMARE Competition

Centro Escolar University Manila and Malolos Communication and Media students’ movie entry “Mandy” received the 1st Prize, People’s Choice and Best Actress Awards in the FILMARE National Film Festival 2024.

 

"Mandy", a 14-minute film, tells the real-life story of a single mother who became pregnant at a young age and faced the challenges of raising a family. The film portrays the harsh realities and struggles of those whose voices are often unheard in society. With its authentic storytelling, "Mandy" is a heartfelt portrayal that resonates deeply with audiences.

 

Hannah Canlas, who portrayed the main character, received the Best Actress Award for her outstanding performance. The film's narrative was inspired by the story of Marivic, bringing a personal and relatable touch to the production.

 

The team behind this masterpiece includes Chloe Bautista, Savannah Lantay, Jereco Nuguid, Ezechiel De los Reyes, Antonette Mandap, Bryan Obalde, Chloe Bautista, Hannah Canlas, Ysce Del Rosario, Roj Concepcion, and Sofia Cruz. Their collaborative effort and dedication have been instrumental in the film's success.

 

The project received unwavering support from Dr. Maria Flordeliza Anastacio, Vice President for CEU Malolos; Dr. Maria Rita Lucas, Dean, School of Education, Liberal Arts, Music, and Social Work; Prof. Ma. Marietta Alvarez, Head, CEU Malolos Communication and Media Program; Prof. Ricky Rosales, former CEU Manila Communication and Media Program Head; and Prof. Valentino Nool, Jr., Faculty, CEU Manila Communication and Media Program.

 

Prof. Ricky Rosales expressed his pride in the students' accomplishment through a Facebook post, highlighting their ability to bring the concept to life with minimal guidance. The film's success showcases the students' creativity and talent in storytelling.

 

The FILMARE Film Festival – NCR leg is the first in a series of filmmaking competitions aimed at showcasing the talents of young film aspirants who use smartphones to create inspirational films depicting various walks of life.
