Centro Escolar University remains faithful to one of its traditions, the CEU Loyalty Day to pay homage to its devoted and committed personnel whose quality service have reached 40, 35, 30, 25, 20 and 15 years with a virtual program via Facebook and Youtube on September 11, 2021.
Likewise, the parent-alumni were also honored for having chosen their alma mater as the home for their children’s learning in college and for having placed value in the education CEU offers to the youth even in these unprecedented times.
September 11 is not an ordinary day for the CEU community because it is also the birth anniversary of the University’s icon of fidelity, Dr. Concepcion Aguila whose legacy lives on until today.
Recipients of the 40-year service awards are Mrs. Maria Catherine Pamintuan from the College of Education, Liberal Arts, and Science in CEU Malolos, Ms. Flordeliza Sison from the School of Nutrition and Hospitality Management, Mr. Cesar Aragona of the Internal Audit, and Mr. Victor Chavez of the Physical Science Department.
As a response, Mr. Chavez sincerely expressed his thanks to the people who have been with him in CEU for the past 4 decades and who have made these years enjoyable and meaningful. For him, everything seems like just yesterday.
“Parang kailan lang, 40 years na pala iyon. Kailanman ay hindi ko naramdaman and pagkabagot sa trabaho. Mabigat man ang isang gawain, kung gagawin nang masaya, ito ay gumagaan”, shared the 40-year service awardee.
Mrs. Maria Theresa Burgos-Mamales and Dr. Betty Marges-Lontoc, two of CEU’s alumni, also graced the event to pay tribute to Dr. Concepcion Aguila and to recognize the loyalty of the honorees.
Mrs. Maria Theresa Burgos-Mamales, a Bachelor of Science graduate, Founder and First President of the CEU Pharmacy Alumni USA/Canada Chapter and now a well-established pharmacist at Walgreens described Dr. Aguila as not just a loyal alumna, but also a loyal Filipina. Despite obtaining her doctorate degree abroad, she came back to the Philippines with her expertise to serve her countrymen which proved of her love for the country.
Words of appreciation for Dr. Aguila continued during the message of Dr. Betty Marges-Lontoc, who considered herself blessed for having met Dr. Aguila, Doña Carmen De Luna, and Doña Generosa De Leon. She believed that these exemplary women had touched her life in ordinary circumstances. She only had very few short moments with them, but these encounters left her positive impressions and influence. She recalled how Dr. Aguila exuded intelligence and self-confidence.
“You know, as well as I know that It is not just about remembering or recalling memories of Doña Librada Avelino, Doña Carmen De Luna , Doña Generosa De Leon, and Dr. Concepcion Aguila that should be done to truly give them tribute. It is more of keeping their united spirit alive by making the founding principles of Science and Virtue active in the lives of everyone in CEU service. But questions of when, where and how should first be answered”, addressed Dr. Lontoc to the awardees.
CEU President and Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Ma. Cristina D. Padolina who is a 15-year service awardee on this year’s Loyalty Day mentioned that Dr. Lontoc was the only person she knew back when she first joined CEU. She also shared in her message how happy she was working with her colleagues and co-workers in the University for the past 15 years.
This annual celebration has been made possible through the hard work and thorough planning of the working committee led by Dr. Rhoda Aguilar, University Registrar and Dr. Paz Lucido, President, CEU Alumni Foundation Inc.
