CEU School of Nursing Gets External Funding for Research on Mobile Diabetes Self-Management Education

Centro Escolar University School of Nursing research on "Effectiveness of Mobile Diabetes Self-Management Education (M-DSME) for Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Indonesia and Philippines" has been approved for external funding by the Metro Manila Health Research and Development Consortium.

 

To address the rising problem of diabetes, the research team led by Dr. Josephine De Leon, Coordinator for Community and Research, CEU School of Nursing, with Dr. Elvira L. Urgel, Dean, CEU School of Nursing, and faculty members Dr. Cresencia M. Santos, Mrs. Joylyn L. Mejilla, Dr. Sofia Magdalena N. Robles, Ms. Anjanette S. De Leon, Ms. Catherine Mae G. Trinidad, Mr. Erljohn C. Gomez and Ms. May P. Mendiuneto will develop a diabetes self-care application called (MDSME) based on the information gathered in Phase 1 of the study.

 

The app will provide evidence-based tailored information in seven modules, provide reminders, utilize social media, and have an interface with a glucometer reading interpretation. Ultimately, this procedure may improve health outcomes, and quality-of-life, and prevent or delay the onset of diabetes complications.

 

This is a collaborative research with the Buleleng Institute of Health Sciences and Baitturahim Institute of Health Sciences in Jambi, Indonesia.
